The primary objective of the Brisbane Markets is to provide infrastructure and services to facilitate the development and operation of a world-class marketing and distribution hub for fresh produce and flowers.
As Queensland's only central fruit and vegetable market, the Brisbane Produce Market is the State's most important centre for the marketing and distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables. It records annual trade in excess of 550,000 tonnes of produce valued at more than $1.045 billion.
BML employs 66 full-time staff equivalents. Priority has been given to ensure BML focuses on meeting all operational demands 24/7. This has resulted in significant growth in staff numbers over the past decade, with a focus on the Maintenance and Operations Departments.
BML operates on a commercial basis as an unlisted public company, with approximately 42,500,000 shares and in excess of 160 industry-related shareholders, including growers, wholesalers, secondary wholesalers, retailers and the industry organisation Brismark.
As part of BML's vision to further develop the Brisbane Markets site into a world-class facility in the warehousing, marketing and distribution of fresh produce and flowers, BML has commenced the process of making its site Master Plan a reality.
