Grower delegations

Grower-Delegations

The Brisbane Produce Market encourages grower delegations of to travel to the markets during their produce season. This is an invaluable opportunity for growers to:

Meet with their wholesaler/s and get a feel for their business

  • See how their product is marketed and sold at the markets
  • Compare their product quality, sizing, packaging etc... with their competitors
  • Inspect the cool chain processes
  • Discuss industry issues, industry food safety requirements, product specifications and terms of trade.

A typical itinerary could include the following activities.

Tour of the trading floor and cold room facilities - The morning begins early with delegates arriving between 6.00am and 7.00am and touring the Brisbane Produce Market trading floor and cold room facilities for around 1-1/2 hours.

Breakfast - Served at the Brismark training facility which seats up to 60 people in one sitting. Larger groups are welcome and can come through in two or more sittings by alternating.

Presentations and guest speakers - Trips can be tailored to suite the needs of each individual group, for example the following could be organised for your group:

  • View a short Brisbane Markets video explaining the workings and its place in the industry.
  • Address from Andrew Young, CEO of Brisbane Markets Limited and Brismark.
  • Presentations and discussions with wholesalers, retailers, and other industry stakeholders (other popular speakers include Fresh Test, Market Information Services and Farmbiz)
  • Some groups like to visit retailers to check how their produce is marketed to consumers as well.
