Go for 2&5
Brisbane Markets has joined the choir of voices encouraging Queenslanders to eat their two fruit and five vegetables each day by taking up a ‘Go for 2 & 5' sub-licence through Queensland Health and Horticulture Australia Limited.
Go for 2&5 is a four year campaign urging Queenslanders to eat at least two serves of fruit and five of vegetables a day to stay healthy and avoid developing chronic disease.
Queensland Health launched the campaign after it was found that less than 15% of adult males and 21% of adult females in the State were eating the recommended daily intake of vegetables.
Brisbane Markets will integrate the branding and healthy eating messages into its current $1 million annual marketing and communication commitment to educate Queenslanders.
BML has incorporated the Go for 2&5 message into its marketing in the following ways:
- Look out for the ‘Go for 2 & 5' Fresh Tastes Mazda 3's on three promotional vehicles which travel around South East Queensland visiting independent retailers and schools promoting fresh fruit and vegetables.
- The healthy food message has also been integrated into Brisbane Markets' Queensland Kids Fresh Net program, that involves educating school children and working with school tuckshops including sending promotional materials and information packs.
- Go for 2&5 brochures are distributed in Fresh Tastes stores and posters are displayed prominently in many retail outlets.
- The Go for 2&5 messages are promoted heavily in any special events or promotions run by the Brisbane Markets, including at the Brisbane Markets Agriculture Hall at the Royal Queensland Show (EKKA).
Horticulture Australia Limited is a national body that administers the campaign in the States and territories where it has been taken up.
